Starogradsko polje razdijeljeno je u mre\u017eu pravokutnih parcela sustavom mjerenja iz sredi\u0161nje to\u010dke – omfalosa (gr\u010d. : pupak) i dvije osi koje se u toj to\u010dki kri\u017eaju. Gr\u010dki geodeti slu\u017eili su se jednostavnim mjernim instrumentom (groma) koji nije omogu\u0107avao sasvim precizno odre\u0111ivanje pravog kuta. Unato\u010d otklonima, osnovna mre\u017ea ostala je izuzetno pravilna, a uo\u010dene nepravilnosti upu\u0107uju na razumijevanje postupka mjerenja pri parcelaciji polja.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Stari Grad Plain i\u0161 divided into a network of rectangular parcels using a system of measurement with its origin in a central location (the „omphalos“, or „navel“, in Greek), and two axes that intersect at this spot. Stari Grad Plain thus bears witness to the history of geodesy as a discipline, which offered the basis for a connection between humans and this fertile land over the course of millennia.
